American Girl is introducing Luciana Vega, the 2018 Girl of the Year. She comes with an out-of-this-world storyline about an 11-year-old who dreams of being the first person on Mars. American Girl worked with NASA, including a task force of advisors (scientists, astronauts, and more below) who helped ensure the accuracy and authenticity of Lucianaβs worldβfrom her story and products to a STEM-based educational program in partnership with Scholastic and Space Camp.
Looking beyond her cool line of space-inspired products (like a Mars habitat and flight suit!), American Girlβs purpose behind this character is whatβs most important. Luciana shows what it can mean to be a girl of strong character today, where creative thinking, collaboration, and STEM literacy provide opportunities for meaningful growth and development. Technology continues to revolutionize what we do and what we know, and Luciana is a character that can bring visibility and valuable lessons to girls at a time in their lives when theyβre learning about their infinite potential to change the world.
Bringing this story to life is an all-star advisory board that includes: Dr. Ellen Stofan, former NASA Chief Scientist, Dr. Deborah Barnhart, CEO and Executive Director of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Maureen O’Brien, Manager of Strategic alliances at NASA, and Dr. Megan McArthur Behnken, NASA Astronaut.
To celebrate her launch, AG is hosting Luciana debut events at its retail locations nationwide on January 1. The event features interactive science demonstrations, a Moon Phase craft, galaxy-inspired treats, and a free Luciana doll tee to take home. For more details, visit americangirl.com/retail .

My daughter is 10 years old, she always calls herself a Science Geek, lol… She loves to study the planet’s, our solar system intriques her. She fell in love with NASA when she was in 3rd grade on a field trip, the space center was like home to her. She has always loved American Girl and what each girl represents. She has read every book out there and when she saw the new American Girl Luciana, she flipped for joy. My daughter Brianna would love to have this doll! She would cherish her forever.
Oh my goodness. My daughter Loves All Things astronaut related. And she is so excited for this new doll. Very cool giveaway π
Would love to win one for my dear Daughter!
STEM learning is so essential to girls & boys! And knowing girls have role models in male dominate careers breaks the barriers and changes the career fields for our future girl generations.
I look forward to seeing the career field limitless for our daughters.
The reality is, my daughter is not only a girl, but also a minority. I believe it is VERY important to instill in her, from a young age, that she is more than capable of achieving any goals she may set, and puts hard work into. The stars are the limit, and this doll is a PERFECT representation of that!! π
My daughter saw Luciana at the American Girl store this week when we went to the event they had to debut her and immediately fell in love! She loves science and outer space so this would be the perfect doll for her. Thank you for the opportunity to win a doll, it would be the perfect surprise for getting a perfect report card!
