My oldest loves cats, super heroes and reading, so when we were sent copies of the Ninja Kitties, she was so excited. These books are visually, “so beautiful,” according to my daughter. They are challenging enough that it pushes her to practice reading, but not so difficult that she gets discouraged. “Wow-mazing,” was the exact word she used to describe the Ninja Kitties books.

For reference, she is in the 1st grade and has always been a great reader. If you are looking for something for your littles to independently read, I think they need to be in at least the 1st grade for these books to hold their interest and not be overwhelming. I think these books are great for 1st – 3rd graders!

The Ninja Kitties books all teach a great life lesson. I particularly enjoy the lesson about why we need to listen to others and how sometimes bad things can happen if you do not (I often find myself wondering if a pair of listening ears was left at school 🙄). The other books we have address working as a team, persistence and believing in yourself. My husband and I try to engrain these messages into her in the way we talk to her and each other, but something about a lesson from a book just hits differently. I love hearing her understand the message on her own and getting to talk about it with her. This way feels like it’s more of a conversation since she’s coming to the table with the story in mind — I’m not just talking at her.

Each Ninja Kitties book also has some activities in the back that help your littles stay engaged and remember character names. It’s a great chance for me to ask her questions about what she read and see if she missed pieces of the story or if she was able to understand it.
