Valentine’s Day… it’s almost here! Some years my husband and I celebrate by getting out of the house, while other years we have stayed home.

How about you? Is this the year you and your special someone stay home? Maybe you won’t have a babysitter, so it’s also time spent with the kiddos. Maybe you even wait till after the kiddos go to bed to get quality time with your special someone. Maybe you’re looking to save money or it could be that you just want to stay home.

Date Night Ideas at Home

If you plan on doing a date night at home but you’re stumped for ideas, here’s a list of date night ideas at home!

1. Bon Fire with S’mores

You never know what to expect with this Florida weather, but it is a chillier time of the year. After the sun goes down who doesn’t love a warm fire and s’mores!? Grab some blankets, Graham Crackers, Hershey’s Chocolate, marsh-mellows and cuddle up! It may even be a fun time for the kids to join in as well.

2. Fondue

Maybe you don’t have a fire pit or prefer to stay indoors. You could do fondue with chocolate or cheese or even both! Grab some pretzels, fruit, marshmallows, crackers and whatever else you prefer to dip in that gooey deliciousness.

3. Play Games

When it comes to two player games my husband and I get competitive. Some of our favorites are Checkers, Sorry, Connect Four, War (card game), Jenga, Mancala, Othello and trivia games. There are so many more out there and it may even be fun for you to two to explore a game aisle to pick out someone you’ve never played before.

4. Dinner

Do you love to cook? Or prefer take out? Some couples enjoy cooking together or for one another. I for sure don’t fall under that category! Others, like me may prefer ordering food. Whatever you prefer, you have two options here; do a candle light dinner (even if it’s Chinese take out! haha) or set up a picnic in the backyard. If you’re not feeling those two options then consider eating your meal together while watching a movie.

5. Watch a Movie

If you’re anything like my husband and I, we take forever to find a movie to watch. I’d say start off by agreeing on a genre. Next find a few movies within that genre you can agree on. If after finding some movies you’re having a hard time deciding then write them down on separate pieces of paper. Next put them in a hat and then pick!

6. Do a puzzel

Doing a puzzle makes for great conversation. Depending on how much time you want to spend on a puzzle, decide between the 100 piece or 1000 piece ahead of time. I’ve learned those 1000 pieces can take hours. But hey, maybe you want to have hours of conversation?!

7. Create a List of Questions

Make the questions light and fun. Maybe you’ll find out something new. You could do this while going on a walk or sitting on the couch. You can come up with some “would you rather” questions and “what’s your favorite (fill in the blank)” questions on things you may have never asked. TIP: Avoid questions that could cause arguing.

8. Paper Airplane Contest

I thought this would be fun for the competitive couples out there. Grab some sheets of paper. Make your paper airplanes and see whose flies furthest. You could add in bets and deals if you want to make it even more fun!

9. Dessert Time

Do you love sweets? Or love baking? Make your favorite dessert together! If you’re not so much into baking, order dessert! You can never go wrong with the Cheesecake Factory, a box of donuts or buying a tub of ice cream to eat together – straight out of the carton!

10. Shared Interest

Is there a hobby you both have in common? Or something your special someone loves that you are willing to give a try? Maybe it’s golf and you can hit some balls in the yard. Maybe it’s painting? Have a fun little paint party together. If you have a basketball and hoop you could play the game HORSE or Around The World. If you have two separate hobbies you could even do both to get a feel for what your partner loves.

No matter what you end up doing, the whole point is to enjoy each other and show appreciation towards one another. One of the best ways you can show love is just by giving that person extra time spent together.

I grew up in Florida and married my high school sweetheart Jeff. We have a daughter named Sadie who is a mix of sweet and sassy. She definitely keeps me on my toes. I am a stay at home mom who is also finishing up college. I can relate to mamas who need to get their homework done while a little one is running around and constantly asking for a new snack. I have a passion for sharing what is put on my heart through writing. I love getting real about things we face in everyday life. Besides writing, my other hobbies include DIY, decorating, being outdoors when it’s not too hot (because Florida!), party planning, singing and spending time with those I am close with. If you came to my house I’d probably not be looking cute, make you a cup of coffee and find enjoyment in just chatting while my toddler runs around scattering toys all over the kitchen.
