Universal Theme Park definitely chose the right name. They have stepped up their game when it comes to being an inclusive park. They currently offer a variety of accommodations for guests with disabilities. Each park (Volcano Bay and Universal Studios Florida/Universal’s Islands of Adventure) also has documents available to guests ahead of time that walk you through each attraction as well accommodations in each park. This guide will be crucial for ensuring your trip goes off without a problem.
Guest Assistance Pass (AAP):
The AAP is a free pass that allows guests with disabilities or medical conditions that prevent them from waiting in long lines to access an alternate queue for attractions. To obtain an AAP, guests must visit Guest Services upon arrival at the park.
Wheelchairs and ECVs:
Universal Theme Park rents wheelchairs, strollers and ECVs for a fee. Guests can rent these mobility devices at Guest Services or at select locations throughout the park. Due to the limited number of EVCs available to rent, you are encouraged to rent yours ahead of time by calling Guest Services at 407-224-4233 at least a week ahead of time. It is also worth noting that you will have about a 10 or 15 minute walk to get from the parking garage, so you can utilize a wheelchair available in the garages if you or your family member cannot do that walk. You must be 18 years old to rent an EVC and have valid identification. You will pay a fee and a refundable deposit on the EVC. If your special needs family member’s stroller should be treated as a wheelchair, see someone at Guest Services and they will be able to get you the pass that will allow them to remain in that stroller during queues and attraction. It is also worth noting that rented EVCs, wheelchairs and strollers cannot leave the park, so if you are park hopping, you will be asked to leave it at the first park and your receipt will allow you to get another at the second park.
Accessible restrooms:
All restrooms at Universal Theme Park are accessible to guests with disabilities. These restrooms feature wider stalls, grab bars, and accessible sinks. You can also utilize the companion bathrooms for additional space. These can be found in Port of Entry and the First Aid Station!
Accessible seating:
Universal Theme Park offers accessible seating in all of its theaters and shows. This seating is located in the front of the theater and is reserved for guests with disabilities.
Service animals:
Service animals are welcome at Universal Theme Park. Guests with service animals must present documentation from a doctor or other qualified professional verifying the need for the animal. Many rides allow your service dog to also experience the attraction with you.
Other accommodations for guests with special needs:
Universal Theme Park also offers a variety of other accommodations for guests with disabilities, such as:
- Braille maps and guides
- Audio descriptions of attractions
- Sign language interpreters for select shows
- Assistive listening devices to guide you through your day
- Quiet rooms
- Wheelchair accessible dining and shopping
