NAFT logoTake a guess. About how many hours of “screen-time” do you think kids average per day? Screen-time including time in front of the television, computer, iPad, Xbox or cell phone. What would you say? Two? Three? Five hours?

The American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that children spend an average of seven – YES, SEVEN – hours a day on entertainment media including TVs, computers, phones and other electronic devices.

Now, how about this question? How many hours a day would you guess a child plays outside? Well, considering that a child averages 7 hours a day with their electronic devices, that doesn’t leave much time for the good ‘ole fresh outdoors!

NAFT-postcardβ€œNo App for That” is a three-hour interactive seminar for parents, to help evaluate the impact that of all of this screen-time has on their families, and to offer the positive alternative of exposing our kids to the many benefits of more time with nature.

  1. ooh! I wish I could enter and join in the morning! I’ve followed Richard Louv awhile now, I love what he promotes, getting kids and families outside! I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and now live outside of Jacksonville, what a great way to meet others and hear a great message. Thanks! Maybe next time πŸ™‚
