About a month ago, I took my girls for a consultation at an orthodontist. He mentioned to them that even though they were not “officially” patients, they could bring their candy into the office on the Monday after Halloween and sell it to him for $1.00 a pound, up to five pounds. They loved this idea.
If your children are anything like mine, they dump their trick-or-treat bags on the floor, separate out their favorite candy, gorge themselves on Halloween, and then the candy just sits in the pantry until I toss it to make room for the Easter candy.
I had heard of dentists and orthodontists buying back candy, so I Googled it. I found this website. Dentists buy back Halloween candy and send the candy to Operation Gratitude or other Military support groups who send the candy to the U.S. Military. There is a search feature on the website where you can enter your zip code and find participating dentists or orthodontists in your area. The site recommends calling ahead to the office to make sure that they are participating before you lug your bag of candy there.
So what do you think?! Would your kids take their candy into the dentist office right after Halloween and sell it to him for $1.00 a pound?? Something to think about!
