Have we lost the art of watching each other’s kids?
Kristi here. 👋🏼 I fully admit I’m an older mom in this mom blog world. My kids are in highschool and college, and the pitter patter of little feet running across the floor is a fond memory 🥰, but I remember it like it was yesterday.
When my kids were little, my girlfriends and I would regularly swap kids. We would go out on mid-week dates with our hubbys after dropping the kids curbside while we sped away. (Just joking….sort of.) 😂 Hair appointments were a breeze in our circle. Grocery shopping alone was heavenly. We didn’t keep track if someone watched the kids more than the other, and we NEVER EVER exchanged money.
My kids would (and still do!) call my friends “Aunt Vickie… Aunt Sarah… Aunt Kim” and yes, I am Auntie Kristi. 🙋🏼♀️
Does this sound foreign to you? Many of my older-mom friends agree that this kid swapping art seems to be happening less and less.
So how about you?
Do your kids have “Aunts”? I’ve heard from girlfriends lately that they feel less of a mom if they ask their girlfriend to watch their kids. Mama! You need it! Your kids need it!
It’s my goal to bring back the art of watching each other’s kids. No strings attached. No payment. It’s simply a favor. Give it a try?
❤️ xoxo,
Auntie Kristi
P.S. Ironically, this photo IS my niece! Auntie Kristi in full effect here! ❤️
I wholeheartedly agree! It’s even becoming less frequent in family circles. I have no blood family where I live, but my in-laws watched my son so infrequently that I can count it on one hand.
Yes I agree!! But to add to that it’s hard to make those adult connections sometimes to have the option of keeping each other’s kids. That is my issue anyway. I am working on making more of these connections to just have adult time as well as family time.
Real nice layout and good articles, nothing at all else we require
:D.
