My little guy was due on January 7th and I thought, perfect! He will be here after the holiday craziness is over…
But on Christmas Eve of 2004, I woke up at 3:30 AM feeling horrible. Sure enough, I was in labor and I could NOT believe it!
At 8:21am on Christmas morning (after barely making it to the hospital), Aidan was born.
The nurses were so excited with a Christmas baby, but all I could think about was, now what?
What do I do with a baby born on Christmas?
How do I make his day special?
How do I keep family from giving him “combined gifts”?
Ugh, this was overwhelmingly stressful!
After many discussions, we decided that Aidan needed to have his own special day just like everyone else. So, here is what we came up with for our Christmas Baby:
1. Christmas is in the morning only (Santa, stockings and gifts)
2. The rest of the day is Aidan’s Birthday
3. We buy him a special birthday shirt to wear
4. We decorate for his birthday
5. Open birthday presents
6. The birthday boy picks his birthday dinner
7. We bake or purchase a special cake
So far, it’s been a success! Christmas in the morning, birthday in the afternoon. A favorite place to celebrate this dual holiday is at the theme parks. Since they are open on December 25th, it is fun for the whole family!
The final step to making a Christmas birthday a success is that there are NO (under any circumstances) combined gifts or birthday presents wrapped in Christmas paper. Christmas babies deserve to have a special birthday just like other kids!
Do you have a Christmas baby? How do you make it special for their birthday?
