April’s Book of the Month is Romancing Mr. Bridgerton by Julia Quinn!
We are adventuring into a genre that we have not read together in Book Club yet… historical romance. And I am so excited to get back into this world of the Bridgerton Family.
If you have been around in Book Club for a while, you know about my love for this entire book series and the Netflix adaptation. I got to meet Julia Quinn at the Chickasaw Branch of the Orange County Library in September as a part of their annual Romance, Wine and Chocolate event. It was a night I will never forget. She was so sweet and I will forever treasure the signed copy of Queen Charlotte I got that night.
So with the first part of season three of the Netflix series set to release in May (FINALLY!!), of course we need to catch up with our favorite wallflower, Penelope! I truly loved Colin and Penelope’s story in Romancing Mr. Bridgerton. It’s a wonderfully done friends to lovers romance story. I am so excited to see how this season plays out and how it differs from the book – I am sure we will talk about the differences in Book Club when we finally get to watch the season. Because of the variations from book to screen already, Penelope and Colin’s story is coming to us before Benedict and Sophie’s story. Benedict’s book is third in order and it is yet to be announced if it’s just these two switching order or how Netflix will handle the order moving forward.
Romancing Mr. Bridgerton Summary:
When Colin Bridgerton discovers Penelope’s secret identity as Lady Whistledown, he becomes very protective of his friend. He believes she is in great danger in her attempt to continue her business of writing the society scandal sheet, after all Lady Whistledown has made a few enemies with the things she has printed. Colin begins to realize that these protective feelings he is having are more than just friendly.
**There are explicit romance scenes in this book, so if you would like to skip those parts, reach out to me and I can give you the chapters/pages to skip over. There are some plot implications in these scenes and I can talk you through those if you’re interested in skipping over these scenes.**
