The Orlando Repertory Theater is a local treasure. If you have not attended a production there, you are really missing out. Last weekend we took our daughters and a friend to see The Borrowers, which runs through this Sunday, September 28th. At Intermission, one of my daughters remarked, “I didn’t like the animated movie “The Borrowers,” but I love this show!”ย Before we saw the show, I wondered how a story about a family of tiny people secretly living under the floorboards and “borrowing” from the residents of the home could possibly be staged. Go see for yourself. ย The set is amazing and the performers are outstanding.
The Borrowers
My husband and I started taking our daughters to live theater productions when they were four.ย We wanted them to experience the magic of seeing a story come to life on the stage right in front of their eyes. We’ve been season subscribers to the Orlando Rep for six years. While we each have our favorite shows, we’ve never once left the theater disappointed.
Tickets may be purchased for a single show or as a season subscription. The season begins in the fall and runs through the spring. Typically five or six shows are offered and each show is performed for several weeks at a time. In my experience, each season there is usually one show geared more for the seven and under crowd, and one show more appropriate for the eight and over crowd; but each show has something for everyone. Over the years, we’ve enjoyed watching some of the Rep’s “regular” performers in different roles.ย It is a tribute to the Orlando Rep that quality actors return to perform in show after show.
After each show, the actors gather in the lobby for a meet and greet, where they patiently sign autographs and pose for photos with their young fans. I’m sad that my almost eleven year old daughters are now too cool to participate and dash for the exit door after the show is over.

The Orlando Repโs box office staff is friendly and responsive. The theater prides itself on bringing affordable, quality entertainment to Orlando. The tickets are reasonably priced. Inexpensive snacks and drinks are sold before plays and at Intermission. I know that there are some group discounts available because our Girl Scout Troop attended the Christmas show as a group last year.
