July was sort of a slow month for me reading wise. Between planned and unexpected travel and trying to soak in the last days of summer, I found myself reading less. And I have to remind myself that it’s okay – not every month will bring high book counts or tons of books that I love. But a reread of The Sinner by Marni Mann captured my attention on a reread on audio!man's hand with scotch, man's shoes and car, man walking across the street, the Hollywood sign, city scape of Edinburgh, a hotel bar with curved bar top, a blonde woman, a car in front of an airplane and a woman in a pool looking to the horizon arranged in a 3x3 square over top of a background of the interior of an airplane

I did however, do a reread of a book that I could not get out of my head. I read it at the end of June and then listened to the audio in July. I got approved for an early copy of the audio through NetGalley, but all thoughts on the audio are totally my own.

If you have never read a book by Marni, I cannot recommend the Spade Hotel series enough. It follows members of a family hotel business on their individual journeys to find happiness. The Sinner is the third in the series, but could be read as a stand alone with only minor spoilers to the first two books. Marni’s books are all super spicy, but still heavily plot driven. The suspense element in this book kept me on the edge of my seat in both reads!

The Sinner Summary:

Brady and Lily meet on a transatlantic flight. She is the flight attendant for first class and they strike up easy conversation. When they land in Edinburgh, they spend the night together and part ways. They do not see each other for 6 months, but they’ve both thought a lot about the other. Lily is the new flight attendant on Brady’s friends (the Daltons, who all have their own books in another series that starts with a book titled The Lawyer) and it’s the perfect opportunity to pick up where they left off. But Lily is insistent that she is not in a good place to be in any sort of relationship and is really vague about the reasons why. Brady isn’t afraid of her secrets, he just has to prove that to her. But Lily’s secrets are darker than Brady imagined and her past really could end their relationship before it gets a chance.
