It’s the weekend and for once, we have no sports or birthday party commitments. To some this would be a blessing, but with two kids under three, my family needs action or someone’s gonna get hurt! If you can relate – or even if you can’t – here are a few fun, inexpensive, kid friendly activities happening this weekend that might be a step up from your favorite playground.
Downtown Orlando Touch-a-Truck
Give your kids the opportunity to touch, climb, explore and “drive” trucks and construction/emergency vehicles in a safe, fun environment. The kids will exhaust themselves while you capture some great shots of the fun.

Cornell Fine Arts Museum Family Day
CFMA Family Day offers scavenger hunts, tours and hands-on activities for your budding artists; it’s free and you don’t have to clean up the mess. Perfection!

Orlando Shakespeare Theater: The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley
Follow the adventures of Stanley Lambchop – who’s flat as a pancake! – as he travels the globe. Print off your own Flat Stanley to bring to the show, “Shake your Sillies” during the interactive pre-show and sing along during the show. Great fun for the whole family.

Story Time at any Central Florida Library
All libraries in Central Florida offer story times on Saturday mornings that are specific to certain age groups. Seminole County Libraries offer the nationally recognized Mother Goose on the Loose Early Literacy program and if you’ve never visited the Children’s Department in the Orlando Public Library downtown, you’re missing out!

Festival of Trees
Need a little holiday cheer or ideas for trimming your tree? The Orlando Museum of Art is transformed into a winter wonderland with the Council of 101’s Festival of Trees. Designer trees, wreaths and gingerbread creations are available for purchase – or inspiration! – and the Toyland Town activity area offers some holiday fun for the little ones.

Local Farmers Markets
Farmers Markets are free and offer an opportunity to be productive and support your local community (hello, fresh produce!) while enjoying the weather and letting out some energy (most have playgrounds conveniently located nearby). The Winter Park Farmer’s Market and the Orlando Farmer’s Market at Lake Eola are two of the larger, more popular venues.
