It’s that time of the year.
We’ve eaten all of the Reese’s Cups within a 3 miles radius.
There has been controversy regarding the design of the Starbucks cup.
Black Friday ads have taken over our mail, radio, and TV.
Turkey, stuffing, squash, and nogs of all sorts have taken over the grocery store aisles.
Ladies, we are in the thick of holiday season.
I know that many people like to wait until the turkey has been made and leftovers divided up to bust out the Christmas decor…and I used to be one of those people. Over the past few years I have felt the Christmas spirit wash over me in the first half of November!
I need my decorations up and twinkly lights twinkling to get me in the mood to Christmas shop (in a timely fashion) and begin the holiday baking. Christmas music is the perfect addition to set the mood…especially if your kids are fighting over the garland and ornament placement for the third hour running. Of course, spiked egg nog tends to help with that too!
Here are my 10 favorite songs to listen to while decking the halls with my kids.
“Frosty the Snowman” – Jimmy Durante (from the 1969 movie)
“Let it Snow” – Boyz II Men
“Hoola Hoop” – Alvin and the Chipmunks
“Sleigh Ride” – The Ronettes
“All I Want for Christmas” – Mariah Carey
“I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” – Gayla Peevy
“I’ll Be Home for Christmas” – Frank Sinatra
“You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” – Boris Karloff (from the 1957 movie)
“Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” – *Nsync
“Feliz Navidad” – Jose Feliciano
Most of these songs take me back to my childhood living room spending the weekend cleaning and decorating with my mom.
The house would smell like lemon Pledge and stale boxes from the attic crawl space until we unpacked and lit the now misshapen candles. Then the smell would change to cinnamon, evergreen, winter berry (there was never just one candle going in my house!).
Usually the week after we would switch to Christmas cookie mode spending the entire weekend (usually with the help of aunts and/or grandparents) making cookie after cookie. We would load them up in shirt boxes and put them in the cold (ie: not Floridian) garage for “safe keeping” until Christmas or the local cookie swap. FYI – the garage is NOT a safe place to store cookies. I snuck SO MANY thumbprints in my day!
Some of my happiest memories of my childhood were around the holidays. I can only hope that my kids look back on their childhood holidays the way that I do…I have a feeling they will.
Love Xmas songs too!! =) I fell in love with Pentatonix Christmas album a couple years ago and throw them into my mix. #happynowlinkup
Oh I do love Pentatonix too!! Their music is amazing π
Great list! I think we will be listening to a few of these today as the tree goes up!
Yay!! I am behind on getting my tree up…purely because my house needs a deep clean first and I’m scared LOL
I do love to listen to holiday music this time of year, and I’m pretty sure each of these is on my list! That said, I’ve already started my holiday baking…where are the fat pants?! Thanks so much for sharing!
YES holiday baking!! This is the best time of year to bake, bake, bake! These days fat pants are called leggings and they are fashionable π
