Our family of 6 has been plant-based for almost 4 years now…our plant-based journey began in the summer of 2018. We made the decision for health reasons and while we were SUPER strict in the beginning, we have been a little more lenient lately. My husband had colitis (keyword here: HAD!) he has been in remission for a few years now…no flare ups, no issues! Being a vegan family in the City Beautiful has become increasingly easier over the years, especially with Veganuary events in Orlando. There are SO many amazing restaurants, companies and overall love for vegan and plant-based friendly everything! We love the variety and the options that are available to us now! Even Disney has jumped on the vegan/plant-based train and offers a ton of options!
While we are predominantly plant-based, if we find that we are presented with a situation where a full plant-based meal is not an option, we don’t fret. Some situations that we have found ourselves in over the years have been: birthday parties, school treats, events and gatherings with family and friends. Covid has drastically reduced these interactions, but they still happen. The thing is, we want our kids to enjoy life and not be “restricted” all the time, so when it comes to them, we let them be kids. They eat so well all of the other time that we are not concerned one bit about “letting them indulge with their friends”.
We have found that most events that we go to (and definitely most gatherings with friends and family) do not have “vegan friendly” offerings. So it was refreshing to go to theย Veganuary Celebration at Persimmon Hollow Brewing Company in Downtown Orlando at Lake Eola. All of these events offer vegan friendly food, crafts, drinks and they are FREE, plus they are family and pet-friendly.
The Veganuary Celebration is a monthly vegan event with over 20 vendors ranging from food, drinks, crafts, art, and other local businesses. It was an awesome outdoor event with live music and a yoga workshop. The Veganuary Celebration has a different speaker/workshop each month and there are weekly events too- the Plant Based Night Market which is on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. The events are created by the Orlando Bearded Vegan and held at Persimmon Hollow Brewing Co. at Lake Eola.
