Don’t let another generic zombie or witch walk the street on Halloween night. Instead, let your child trick-or-treat in style while paying tribute to the City Beautiful. Here are 5 Orlando-themed Halloween costumes that I bet you didn’t think about.
The I-4 Eyesore
Why dress like a pretty princess when you could look like actual royalty dressed as the famous Majesty Building (a.k.a. the I-4 eyesore)? The unfinished highrise sits along Interstate 4 near the Altamonte Springs exit. Construction started in 2001 and it is still ongoing. All it would take to create this look is a cardboard box cut into the right shape. You could really capture the mood of the building by purposely leaving it unfinished.
Orlando City Soccer Player
Walk into almost any Orlando area Publix or Walgreens and you’ll find an aisle full of purple and white t-shirts and jerseys. Dressing as your favorite Orlando City player or as a die-hard fan could make for a fun and easy costume idea. All you need is a ball to kick around as you trick-or-treat.
Tacky Theme Park Tourist
Take the traditional tacky tourist costume theme and localize it. Add Disney ears, flip-flops, and a transparent plastic rain poncho to your cargo shorts and hawaiian shirt combo. Be sure to ask your fellow trick-or-treaters for directions to Cinderella’s castle and for the best restaurant recommendations on I-drive.
Florida Man
This one is definitely open to interpretation! Florida man can mean so many things depending on who you talk to. I’d recommend riding an alligator pool toy around the neighborhood while wearing jean shorts and a worn-out t-shirt. You could go all in on the costume by not wearing any shoes, but flip-flops will work too.
Distressed Meteorologist
Take a page out of Tom Terry’s book and roll up the sleeves of your dress shirt. That’s how everybody knows you mean business. You could walk around with a green screen behind you to let people know you’re getting ready to do your 7-day forecast. If you’re worried people won’t know what you’re supposed to be, you could cut out a piece of cardboard shaped like a hurricane and cover it in white cotton balls (although given our recent hurricane seasons, this might be too dark). I also like a version where you randomly throw spaghetti at a map of Florida. Or for a joke only public school families will get, you could walk around telling everybody that you heard thunder and there will probably be a 30/30 so they can’t release the trick-or-treaters.
