As you know, Allison usually shares her top pick each month. But the truth is, we’re all avid readers here at Orlando Mom, and we each have our own unique taste in books. So, I asked if I could spotlight my favorite read this month instead. Before diving in, I have a confession to make — I love a good reverse harem. Give me all the omegaverse, the fantasy world of shifters, paranormal escapades, and, of course, the smut! I’m not shy about it. There’s something intoxicating about multiple love interests fulfilling different needs for the Female Main Character (FMC). There’s the nurturing one, the brooding bad boy, the strategic thinker, and the steadfast provider—and naturally, they’re all experts in the bedroom. Obviously.

Blood Oath is the first book in Morgan B. Lee’s four-part series, Cursed Legacies, and it

a mood board for blood oath, cursed legacies by morgan b lee. there are 9 images, starting from top left going clockwise: red gradient that says "house of craving", a cloud with barely light going through, yellow gradient that says "house of shifters", macabre image of a skull and witch-like elements, green gradient that says "house of arcana", hands against a glass, a shadow; blue gradient that says "house of elementals", spooky forest with trees in the distance, and the center image says "cursed legacies" with a line, triangle, circle, and square on top of each.

does an excellent job of setting the stage for the complex characters and the world they inhabit. The novel balances character development and world-building without overwhelming you with too much detail. Just enough is revealed to keep you engaged and dropping tantalizing breadcrumbs that make you eager to know more. It’s no surprise I binge-read the first two books in less than a weekend!

The characters in Blood Oath are somewhat of anti-heroes. Maven Oakley is absolutely hiding something, and she’s honestly a straight-up bitch, but you still find yourself rooting for her. Everett Frost, the straight-laced professor type, fits the role of the group’s logical provider. Silas Crane, a little unhinged but fiercely protective, balances the team’s chaos with his practicality. Baelfire Decimus, the arrogant yet strangely insightful dragon shifter, takes on the caregiver role — always making sure Maven is fed and comfortable. And finally, there’s Crypt DeLune, the psychotic Nightmare Prince who might just be my favorite. I mean who doesn’t love a guy who brings you chocolate when you’re on your period?

There’s something very wrong with all of them — yet somehow, they’re so relatable. Their flaws make them human (well, almost), and when they come together, they bring out the best in one another.

Book Summary

Everbound University is a mandatory institution for all supernatural beings — descendants of the Four Houses — who must attend to break the curses binding their bloodlines. Enrollment isn’t optional, and refusal means becoming a fugitive hunted down for illegal existence in the mortal realm. For most legacies, joining a quintet — a group of five bonded students — is a dream come true and a divine blessing. But for Maven Oakley, binding her heart to anyone else is a catastrophic idea. Determined to keep her dark secret hidden, she rejects all four of her powerful and dangerously attractive matches. Yet, these legacies— the icy elemental, the blood fae, the dragon shifter, and the Nightmare Prince — are not accustomed to being turned away.

Despite Maven’s best efforts to push them away, each match becomes more intrigued by her resistance. The blood fae reveals a softer side, the cocky dragon shifter refuses to leave her alone, the unhinged Nightmare Prince continues to call her darling, and the icy elemental grows even more protective. As they close in on her, drawing unwanted attention to a truth she’s desperate to conceal, Maven faces an impossible dilemma: risk her secret being exposed or find a way to convince them she’s not worth pursuing. But as their bonds strengthen, one thing becomes increasingly clear — the harder she pushes, the closer they seem to want to get.
