We all know that change doesnโ€™t happen overnight. It happens gradually โ€“ day by day, week by week, month by month. And now that a new year stands before us, we are challenging you to gradually build up your life. The monthly Build Up Challenge is an effort to focus on small changes throughout each day, week and month, and building up these small actions over time will lead to significant changes in our lives.

At Orlando Mom, we started 2024 off with intentionally building up positive habits that will help our well-being and allow us to build up our families and homes too.

Each month, we are going to share and challenge you to work on five habits for the month โ€“ one for each of these areas of life:

  1. Mindfulness
  2. Physical Wellness
  3. Emotional Wellness
  4. Family
  5. Home

It is our sincerest hope that you will join us and other moms throughout Central Florida by reading about these monthly habits and finding ways that work for you to implement them into your life.

We will be sharing reminders on our Facebookย andย Instagram for these habits. Weโ€™ll ask how you are doing tackling each challenge and we want to hear from you so that we can share your progress and help motivate others.

Check out each challenge for the year so far:

THE OCTOBER CHALLENGE!

Mindfulness โ€“ Go for a morning walk

Wake up early and go for a walk and soak up the morning sunlight!

There is so much science around morning sunlight and how good it is for our bodies. In addition to improving sleep patterns, morning sunlightย provides essential vitamin D, strengthens the immune system, reduces stress, and supports mental health.

Sunlight also sets circadian rhythms! Bright morning light has a profound impact on our circadian rhythms, influencing hormone production and sleep cycles.

Physical Wellness โ€“ Move Your Body

Dedicate some time each day to moving your body. If you do not currently have an exercise routine, start with a 10 minute walk (ps- this is also going to be a good time for mindfulness like above!) Build upon that everyday. The goal is to just MOVE in whatever way makes you happy. Track your movements with an app or a fitness tracker to motivate yourself each day!

Emotional Wellness โ€“ Date Night with Partner

Date nights can have many benefits for couples, like strengthening emotional connection. Date nights can help you spend uninterrupted time with your partner, which can boost your emotional connection and reduce stress! They can help you get out and have fun, but also give you time to share thoughts and feelings. The most important part of dates night is setting an example for the kids by showing your kids the importance of valuing relationships.ย

Family โ€“ Create a New Family Bonding Event

Studies have found thatย familiesย who enjoy groupย activitiesย together share a stronger emotionalย bondย as well as an ability to adapt well to situations as a family. Iโ€™m sure you can remember TGIF as a kid (especially if you were a 90โ€™s kid)! Those simple family gatherings create core memories for the kids and give moms an easy night and lots of smiles!

With all of the fun, family friendly fall events, there are tons of ways for you to create a new family bonding event with your kids! Check out our Ultimate Guide to All Things Fall for ideas.

Home โ€“ Deep Clean the Bathroom

One by one, room by room, this house is getting cleaned up! Doing a DEEP clean in the bathroom is daunting. But clean grout, dust off the light bulbs and a sparkling tub are refreshing! While toilets and sinks are easy everyday cleaning, the deeper stuff seems to be the “ick” chore for me.

This is it! this is the Building Up Challenge for October!

Let’s work on the Building Up Challenge together until October 31! Then, weโ€™ll be back with 5 new habits for November. Remember to comment on our social media posts with how you are doing, we’d love to encourage you and share with others too!
