We’ve all seen the meme…”I’m not making new year resolutions this year because nobody likes a sober, skinny b**** anyway”.
You know you laughed. And if you are like me, every New Year, you make new resolutions. Drink a little less. Exercise a little more. Some that you follow through with and most that you don’t and some that when you look back are just comical. Nice try though.
2016 has really been a year of clarity for me and realizing that purposeful intentions are important and I have also been learning more about the power of manifesting. I am very familiar with the law of attraction and I’ve read The Secret several times. {Side note~ this has nothing to do with my religious beliefs, this is just another way for me to personally connect with the universe and my internal self.} They key is to actually implement the practices that I’ve read and learned so much about.
I started 2016 with a vision board. And now as I reflect on this past year, I realize that I need to set more powerful intentions and say affirmations to myself daily, in addition to my vision board. I am also realizing that my obsession with writing things down {lists on lists on lists and a hand written calendar in addition to iCal} needs to be utilized in a creative way…so I am starting a bullet journal too.
I plan to kick 2017 off with intentions NOT resolutions.
I feel that setting goals and having a plan to attain those goals is going to be more beneficial for me than a resolution.
Let me explain.
Intention: An act or instance of determining mentally upon some action or result. Purpose or attitude toward the effect of one’s actions or conduct.
New Year Resolutions: A tradition in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement or something slightly nice… What began as a way to “kick bad habits”.
You see, we all have good and bad habits. We are aware of the things that need to change (i.e. bad habits-for me, potty mouth and I like wine a lot) and the things that we could definitely do more of (for me-volunteer at church). We know that having a “New Year’s Resolution” is a traditional way to kick ourselves in the butt and make it happen. But truth be told, (according to statisticbrain.com) 24% of people that make a resolution fail.
So why not try something new this year?
Set intentions and work on them daily. Focus on the goals. Visualize intentions. Say affirmations. Write it down. It might be therapeutic and freeing. Every relationship that we are in is “work” right? So I am approaching this years intentions as a relationship. I will work on it every day!
I also chose a word of the year for 2017. My word is PURPOSE.
Purpose: the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc., an intended or desired result; end; aim; goal, determination; resoluteness, the subject in hand; the point at issue, practical result, effect, or advantage.
I am determined to live my life with purpose. To love with purpose. To give with purpose. To be on purpose.
I am super excited to make my vision board and to start my bullet journal. I created a printable template for anyone that wants to make a word of the year. You can get it here.
Any mamas out there that have a bullet journal? Iโd love to hear about it and see pics!
