I have seen everyone on Bookstagram talking about this fanfic and when my oldest started reading the Harry Potter series, I just knew it was time for me to jump on the bandwagon and see what all the fuss is about. It took me most of the month of November to read, not because I didn’t enjoy the story, but because of the length. Manacled is nearly 400,000 words – the size of about four contemporary romance novels – but every moment had me captivated.
Manacled is a dark Dramione (Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger) fanfic and it takes place after Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It reimagines what the wizarding world would have looked like if the Dark Lord had won the war between good and evil.
Manacled is being taken off the popular fanfic sites at the end of the year because SenLinYu is having the story traditionally published in fall of 2025. I got my copy from Archive of Our Own and downloading the pub file was super easy!
Manacled Summary:
Hermione is the last living member of the Order of the Phoenix and has been held captive for the last 13 months. When she is seen by a healer, they realize she has secrets hidden in her mind that Voldemort is very interested in. All attempts to recover the memories do not work, but the head healer suggests that a magical pregnancy may help those memories become less hidden. So that is how Hermione finds herself in Voldemort’s wizarding repopulation program, assigned to his right hand man, the High Reeve.

This book is dark and comes with a huge list of trigger warnings. I have said it before, but it bears repeating, please be cautious about your mental health and look at the author’s list before diving into this one
