I did something I RARELY do this past month… I re-read a book. I’m usually and one and done kind of gal when it comes to books. I NEVER feel compelled to go back and re-read. I like the unpredictability of the first read. So imagine my shock when Josh and Jules from “Twisted Hate” kept creeping into my thoughts. I bought myself a Kindle sticker with my favorite quote from their book in attempt to calm my mind down about this. Spoiler alert: It didn’t work. I kept thinking about Josh and Jules, so I started their book over from the beginning.
I think I love this book so much because it is enemies to lovers done to literal perfection. To get the full impact, you need to read Twisted Love and Twisted Games first. You get a preview into the ‘enemies’ portion of their love story in the first two books of the series and it makes the build up to their book even better. Something about this trope just hits differently when you see their relationship unfold in other books. I am ruined to the enemies to lovers trope in any other way now. I also adore the asian culture representation in this book as Jules learns about Josh’s heritage. They are an interracial couple and Ana represents them both so very well.
Twisted Hate Summary:
Josh is entering the final stretch of his residency in the ER and Jules is finishing up law school. These two have spent the last 7 years hating each other, so imagine their shock when they discover they are co-workers. Jules has taken on a job at a little law clinic that often uses Josh’s medical knowledge to help their clients. Because they both love their work at the clinic, Josh proposes a truce to their usually feisty relationship. They both agree that while at work they can be kind to one another. Their truce begins to blur into other part of their relationship. When they’re forced to spend the weekend together with Jules’ friend (and Josh’s little sister), they begin to realize that beneath all of the teasing in their relationship, they really enjoy being around each other. This vacation sequence leads to one of my favorite scenes in the whole book as Josh gets to show off his doctor skills when Jules doesn’t feel well. They eventually decide that they can pull off a ‘no strings attached’ physical relationship because when you’re as busy as these two, who has time to properly date? But their explosive chemistry shocks them both and they realize the line between love and hate is pretty thin and blurry. Then Jules’ past threatens to implode everything they’ve built and they have to rely on something they’ve never given each other before, forgiveness.
Twisted Hate Rating:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
If you love the enemies to lovers trope, I think this one is the best of the best. You can read it as a stand alone, but the build up in the first two books just makes this happily ever after even better. This is one of the spicier books in the series, so if you’re looking for a closed door romance, skip this one for sure.
