If you’re a fan of Disney, have a trip planned, or are an annual passholder, look no further than Main Street, U.S.A. Just between the Fire Station and the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A., as you enter Magic Kingdom, is a dapper, 1900s-era barbershop. Nestled among the charming storefronts, this little hidden gem offers a whimsical touch of nostalgia. Harmony Barber Shop is an ideal place to get a reasonably priced haircut in between character meet-and-greets, parade viewing, and family rides.

If you’ve never been to the shop before, it’s worth stopping by for its atmosphere alone. The decor is straight out of another era, complete with antique barber chairs and a cozy, vintage feel. Whether it’s your child’s first haircut or a quick trim for the grown-ups, it’s a fun and unique Disney experience.

Booking your first haircut at Disney World

We are annual passholders and visit the Disney World theme parks often here in Orlando. When visiting for our son’s 2nd birthday, I wanted to see if we could snag a spot at Harmony Barber Shop for his first haircut at Disney World. Since reservations open 60 days in advance, they can be difficult to secure for last-minute trips. While we didn’t manage to book ahead online, I stopped by the shop upon arrival to check for any cancellations or availability.

To our luck, a cast member greeted us with good news—they had a spot open right then! Within minutes, out two-year-old was seated in a chair, handed a small Mickey light-up toy, and ready for his magical haircut experience. It was such a relief to find a walk-in spot, especially for such a special occasion. So, if you can’t find a reservation online, it’s always worth checking in when you arrive!

A magical first haircut experience

We let the barber know this was our son’s first professional haircut and weren’t sure how he’d react to scissors or a buzzer. In true Disney style, they made the entire process magical from start to finish. Our son never even noticed the shears in her hand as the barber distracted him with the Mickey toy, playful chatter, and gentle spritzes of water.

The haircut only took about 20 minutes, and the results were fantastic. As a special keepsake, the barber handed us our son’s trimmed locks in a small bag sprinkled with Tinker Bell’s fairy dust. He also received a “My First Haircut” certificate, and the iconic My First Haircut Mickey ears topped off the experience. All of this came at an incredibly reasonable price of $28 — a memory that will last a lifetime.

Prices and services at Harmony Barber Shop

The shop offers simple and affordable haircut services, which is a rare find in a theme park setting. Children’s haircuts start at $20, adult cuts at $21, and beard trims at just $8. Keep in mind that gratuity is not included and is cash-only, so plan accordingly. The services are simple trims, lightly styled with spray, and the shop does not wash hair. Their website recommends arriving with “clean, dry hair” for the best results.

If you’re planning your child’s first haircut at Disney World, keep in mind that a theme park ticket (and a park reservation for Annual Passholders, if required) is necessary to access Harmony Barber Shop.

Tips for a smooth first haircut at Disney World

  • Book early: Reservations for Harmony Barber Shop open 60 days in advance and fill up quickly, especially for first haircuts. Use the My Disney Experience app to secure your spot.
  • Arrive prepared: Since the shop doesn’t wash hair, make sure your little one’s hair is clean and dry before your appointment. Bringing along a small snack or toy can also help keep them entertained during the haircut.
  • Be flexible: If you’re unable to get a reservation, stop by the shop when you arrive at Magic Kingdom to check for last-minute cancellations or walk-in availability.
  • Capture the moment: Bring your camera or phone to document this special milestone. The barbers and cast members are happy to let you snap photos during the haircut!
  • Consider the timing: If your child tends to get restless later in the day, try to book a morning appointment. A happy, well-rested child makes for a much smoother experience.
