If you’ve been around Orlando Mom for a while, you know I’m always on the hunt for those magical after-hours experiences that turn an ordinary Friday night into something the kids will talk about all weekend. Well, get ready, because Sunset at the Zoo, presented by Orlando Health, is officially returning to the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens on Friday, May 22 from 5–8 p.m., and this year’s kickoff is celebrating Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage in the most beautiful way.

Why I’m Excited About This One

There’s just something about the zoo at golden hour. The animals are more active, the Florida heat finally takes a breather, and the whole place feels a little more enchanted. Sunset at the Zoo gives families that perfect window — doors reopen at 5 p.m. and the fun keeps rolling until the sun goes down. (Pro tip: last admission is 7:30 p.m., so don’t wait too long to head out.)

This month’s event is extra special because it’s a vibrant celebration of AAPI cultures, traditions, and — let’s be honest, the part my kids are most excited about — the flavors. We’re talking food trucks, sunset-only bites at Graze, and local vendors and community tables sharing stories you don’t always get to experience in our neck of the woods.

What Your Kids Will Love

If you’re like me, you know the secret to a great family outing is making sure there’s something for everyone. Sunset at the Zoo absolutely delivers:

  • Food trucks and sunset-only bites at Graze (yes, mama gets to eat too!)
  • Local vendors and community tables celebrating AAPI heritage
  • Kid-friendly games that’ll keep the littles entertained
  • Animal enrichment and extra Keeper Chats — my kids LOVE these
  • Barnyard Buddies and giraffe feedings — because giraffe selfies are basically required

It’s that perfect mix of educational and just plain fun that makes me feel like a winning mom by the time we head home.

The Best Part? The Price.

Y’all, tickets are just $6 per person online (or $8 at the gate — so book ahead!). And here’s the deal I’m telling all my mom friends about: the $46 Family 4-Pack includes 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, and 4 sodas — available online only. That’s dinner AND the entertainment sorted for under fifty bucks. Sign me up.

Quick heads up: this event is separate from regular day admission, and it’s not included for Annual Passholders, so make sure to grab your tickets ahead of time.
